Essence Gift Shop
Essence, the gift shop at the J, located on the main level, stocks a wide selection of Jewish books and music in addition to Judaica items, giftware, cards and jewelry. Items we carry include:
- Prayerbooks (siddurim)
- Classical and modern translations and commentaries on the Tanach and Chumash
- Benchers
- Cookbooks
- Hebrew and Yiddish dictionaries
- Vast array of books on many Jewish topics including religion, philosophy, history, novels, humor, memoirs and biographies
- The largest selection of Jewish CDs in Houston - Klezmer, Yiddish, Hebrew, Israeli, Mizrachi, Sephardi, cantorial, humor, children's and many other genres
- Essence Kids - a wonderful selection of children’s books, toys and crafts with Jewish themes or authors
- Gift registry for weddings, births and other special occasions as well as courtesy gift-wrapping
- The ERJCC gift card in any denomination, which can be used for services, classes or products anywhere in the ERJCC

Essence is run primarily by dedicated volunteers, and there are currently spots open on the volunteer team. Volunteers should enjoy interacting with people and have a basic knowledge of computers.
