What the Children’s Scholarship Ball Means to Our Families!

The 27th Annual Children’s Scholarship Ball is coming up Saturday, March 4, 2017. There is nothing more important to us at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC than making a lasting impact on the lives of children in our community. Each year, 300 children at the J benefit from scholarship assistance, but the need is great year round.  This is why the Children’s Scholarship Ball benefitting the Irvin Kaplan Children’s Scholarship Fund was created to ensure that all children from six-week-old infants to teenagers, of all religious and ethnic backgrounds, and with different abilities, can participate in our early childhood programs, preschools, special needs programs, holiday events and J Camps.CSB Honorees touring the Bertha Alyce School

For some families, giving their children these enriching experiences can create financial hardship. Meet some of our scholarship recipients:

“It is extremely difficult to put into words how much the scholarship program has benefited our family. Our family is young and we have worked hard to establish solid careers; however, we have struggled financially. As our children are our most precious belongings, we of course want only the best for them. We are truly thankful that our children have been given this opportunity and it is directly as a result of the availability of scholarships. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The assistance is appreciated more than anyone can imagine. After all, it is helping to shape the future.” - BAS Parent

“Jewish education and community are incredibly important to me especially since my father comes from a family of Holocaust survivors. The J has become my family, community and home. I am not sure what I would have done without the scholarship and I don’t know how I could have made it without the J. My children love and cherish Shabbat, they practice Tikkun Olam, and they recite prayers at home and incorporate what they are learning at the J into their daily lives.” - Elana Hoffman, mom to 7-year-old Molly and 4-year-old Hannah.

Thanks to generous supporters, the J has proudly granted more than $11 million dollars in scholarship assistance since 1990.

The J will host the 27th Annual Children’s Scholarship Ball on March 4, 2017 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Lauren and Jeremy Blachman and H-E-B and Scott McClelland, were selected as Ball Honorees for their success in improving the quality of life for children.
