Recycling at the J In this green age, waning newspaper subscriptions and rechargeable batteries hasn't helped in easing the load for recycling centers. In fact, consumption of recyclable materials is still in high demand.
Though, the green campaign is helping with the booming popularity of drive-by recycling sites like the one at the ERJCC. Aimed at making recycling easier for the public, the ERJCC has joined the green initiative. The Center recycling program include paper products and batteries.
 Member Owen Fisher has always considered himself to be environmentally conscious, but he lives in a townhome where recycling pickup is not available.

"I believe in recycling. I think we've been behind the rest of the country and some parts of the world. My mother lives in Florida where they have been recycling for ten years. They even have recycling pickup in rural New York where my sister lives," Fisher said.
Fisher travels to the ERJCC three to four times a week hauling his recyclable trash with him. "It requires a little effort on my part but I'm very glad to see the program expanding at the ERJCC. It makes a lot of sense," he said.
The ERJCC started its recycling program five years ago with paper. The ERJCC is keeping up with demand and added batteries. Several recycling barrels are located at the pools and on all floors at the Joe Weingarten building.
