J Camps – Your Summer Home

Houston, TX – Evelyn Rubenstein JCC of Houston wants you to be prepared when the long days of summer suddenly appear and it’s right around the corner. Why are J Camps filling up fast?  Because parents have confidence knowing their children are in a safe, enriching and fun environment.

Jessica Leif has a high stress job at MD Anderson Cancer Center, but she also has two active boys at home. She has done her shopping and the J offers the perfect solution for her family. She is particular about her boys getting just the right amount of fun, in a learning environment that keeps them active and safe.

“For working parents J Camps are a wonderful option,” said Jessica. “The fact that your child can have something constant to do from 7 am – 6 pm is amazing.  My kids love hanging out with their old and new friends; the counselors are “cool” and I don’t have to travel all over town taking them to different camps to have different experiences. J Camps have everything they want in one place. My family really likes the variety offered at J Camps.”

J Camps offers a variety of camp programming for children ages 3 – 15 years old. Specialty camps include Gymnastics, Tennis S.T.E.M., Art, Lego, Aquatics, Wood Creations, Mad Science, Dance and Equestrian Camp. Your child can spend the week training in our state-of-the-art tennis or gymnastics facilities with professionals. Or they can mix up the fun with increasing their sports skills. This summer Sports Camp is expanding to 1st and 2nd graders for the Mike Henshaw Soccer Camp and Rice Baseball Camp. These campers will spend the morning learning and developing soccer and baseball skills and still enjoy instructional and recreational swim in the afternoons.  Sports Camp also includes Matt Swanson Golf and Triple D Basketball Camps for 3rd – 6th graders as well as Mike Henshaw Soccer Camp and Rice Baseball Camp.

If your child prefers something more cultural, our Performing Arts Camp offers 3rd -6th graders the opportunity to be part of a full scale theater production of Freckleface Strawberry the Musical.  We also have an Art Camp directed by Johnston Middle School teacher, Tobi Arsham. Campers will learn about different themes through styles like Renaissance, Impressionism, Pop Art and Graffiti.

The J takes pride in hiring skilled, experienced and caring staff to work with campers. We aim for a 1:6 camper-to-staff ratio with an average class size of 15 – 20 campers depending on the camp.

“J Camps goals include socialization, skill development and an increased level of role modeling from our camp staff – all delivered in a safe, nurturing environment,” said Randy Comensky, Director of Children and Camping Services. “Our camp facilities and trained staff enable us to provide the finest camp programming available in the Houston area.”

J Camps also offer traditional camp programs with daily instructional and recreational swimming, Judaic enrichment and creating friendships to last a lifetime.

The J has been giving children the ultimate day camp experience for more than 65 years. Camp begins with pre-camp May 31 and runs three separate sessions ending August 19.  Your child can enjoy as many weeks of J Camps as he or she wants.
