Infant Swimming Resource Program - Enrollment Now Open
Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is the safest provider of swimming lessons for babies and toddlers between six months and six years old, and the only swimming method of its kind that emphasizes developmentally-appropriate instruction focused on survival swimming skills. Many parents don’t realize the dangers of introducing young children to water before they know how to save their lives in an unexpected water encounter. Before your baby can feel confident to safely enjoy the water, he or she must first learn the skills needed for Self-Rescue™. Using instruction techniques based on the behavioral sciences, ISR teaches each child survival swimming skills in conjunction with basic swimming lessons that give them the competence required to safely enjoy the water. ISR lessons are open to the public. For more information, contact Whitney Moore at 713-729-3200 ext. 3243 or wmoore@erjcchouston.org.
ISR - Rollback to Float 6 - 12 MOS Babies 6-12 months old are very active and surprisingly quick! Before your baby can feel confident to safely enjoy the water, he or she must first learn the skills needed for Self-Rescue™. The Rollback-to-Float teaches Infants 6 to 12 months how to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back, and float unassisted to rest and breathe until help arrives. Students are gently guided through every skill level, learning to master each ISR Self-Rescue technique in swimming attire, and while fully clothed. Lessons are delivered in ten-minute trainings, five days per week, Monday through Friday, for four to six weeks. Open to public.
ISR - Swim-Float-Swim 13 MOS - 4 YRS Swim-Float-Swim is for babies and children who can walk independently. In this program children learn how to hold their breath underwater, swim with their head down, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe, and to roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool and can crawl out or be rescued by an adult. Using instruction techniques based on the behavioral sciences, ISR teaches each child survival swimming skills in conjunction with basic swimming lessons that give them the competence required to safely enjoy the water. Students learn to perform these skills first in a swim diaper/bathing suit and then while fully clothed. Lessons are delivered in ten-minute trainings, five days per week, Monday through Friday, for four to six weeks. Open to public.
ISR - Refresher Lessons 6 MOS - 4 YRS Upon completion of their initial lessons, ISR recommends that each child take a short 2-3 week refresher course to help them adjust their skills to their new body size in the water, and that skills be re-evaluated every 6-12 months after the initial lesson set. Refresher lessons are delivered in ten minute trainings, five days per week, Monday through Friday, for two to three weeks. Open to public.
