“I took my twin daughters to the Shabbatify program at the JCC a couple of weeks ago, and we had such a great time! It’s important that my children associate Shabbat not just with spiritual reasons, but with time spent together with family members and plain good fun! Capture the Flag, chocolate mosaics and glow sticks will do the job! We look forward to more events.”

Where can you run around with your kids, let them play games on their own, and do craft projects with chocolate with your own friends, all on Shabbat? At Shabbatify! This new program for elementary aged kids and their parents at the J has created a new time and place for families to be together on Shabbat, trying new things on their own and as a family.

“I am so excited to see this program grow, and have really enjoyed working on it,” said Family Outreach Program Specialist Rachel Teichman.

“Our third event is coming up on Saturday, April 2, and it promises to be as fun as the first two. Everyone will get to participate in Family Passover Yoga with Jessica Zoller. Then while parents take part in a Katz Coffee tasting, the kids will have free play time in the gymnastics center. We will all meet back up for a Havdallah service to end our program together,” said Teichman.

Here’s some feedback we’ve received from families who’ve taken part in Shabbatify so far…

"I love the two activities going on at the same time, one for kids and the other for the adults. It was like having a date with my husband during the day! My kids could not stop talking about how much fun they had in their activity. It was so fun participating in an activity as a family with other Jewish families."

"It was flawlessly organized and left our family excited to participate in other Shabbatify events."
-Wolf F.

"My seven-year-old son and I had a very fun afternoon at the new Shabbatify program! It is such a great opportunity to engage this age of children in Jewish programming. There seemed to be a lack of these types of events for the elementary age groups. We look forward to participating in the next well-planned, unique event!"
