We have several updates to share with you today.

Remediation In Progress

Remediation work continues, and we are assessing the damage to the central plant to determine how we will provide electricity and air conditioning to the Weingarten Building. We are continuing clean up work at the Merfish Teen Center and Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School. All three pools at the main campus are closed indefinitely as we assess repairs needed. We are working to get the Merfish pool operational; however, we have discovered some equipment was damaged. Learn more

Thank You YMCA

Thanks to the generosity of the YMCA of Greater Houston, all Evelyn Rubenstein JCC members are able to use Y facilities to exercise, swim, take fitness classes, etc.   When you go to the any of the Ys in the area, please take your J membership card. This offer is available as long as our facilities are closed.

Other Updates

J Meals on Wheels

Today we home delivered 350 Meals on Wheels to homebound older adults. If you would like to deliver meals, please contact Kate Daniel at

We are committed to starting KidZone on Monday, Sept 11. More details will be available in the next few days.

Hurricane Harvey Day Camp

Hurricane Harvey Day Camp at Congregation Emanu El in partnership with Emanu El and Greene Family Camp had 250 children in attendance.

Supplies that were donated to the J to distribute that were not picked up are being transported to an area church that is operating a distribution center.

Thanks to Ben Hurwitz and Westheimer Transfer and Storage for donating trucks to deliver the supplies.

Our Dumpster

The next time you are in the area, at the corner of Chimney Rock and South Braeswood, there is a trash dumpster against a light pole. That is the J's dumpster that floated away.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work through the various facility challenges and look for ways to start to provide programs and services to our community.
