While choosing new equipment for the Fitness Center at the J, Director Robin Fortenberry wanted to ensure we had a wide range of functional fitness equipment. We want to keep members engaged and educated on all that we have to offer. We held demonstrations on Sunday, March 25 on the new Escape equipment located in the far back corner of the fitness center floor. Trainers Vince and Ulises showcased their training styles while incorporating the new pieces with functional exercises.
One piece which looks and sounds like a large musical instrument is actually a core momentum trainer, designed to strengthen and tighten the core.
“The shape of the CMT and the material itself ensure a force is generated to get the core reacting in the optimum way. Hitting the sweet spot also creates a sharp, sudden sound. A change in tone occurs if the user loses focus or becomes fatigued, so users and coaches alike get instant, audible feedback to accompany the physical experience.” (www.escapefitness.com)
Members were able to try out the equipment with our trainers close by to ensure they were accurately utilizing everything for a maximum benefit.
My personal favorite was the Bulgarian bag, a U shaped weighted bag that can be worn over the shoulders for squats, swung around by the handles for core work and stability, or gripped for weighted burpees (always fun.) No matter your age or fitness level, there is an equipment option and an exercise modification that will work for you.
At first glance, some of the Escape equipment looks intimidating, but with a quick instruction from the trainers, our members were off to the races. They were slamming the bags, doing planks, practicing their deadlifts, all while enjoying each other and the new additions to the gym.
Check out the photos and videos from the demonstrations.
As always, please come and ask us any questions about the new equipment.
