Book Festival Volunteers

As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to give special thanks to the dedicated volunteers that made this year’s Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Festival a success. Our Festival volunteer core, 160 people strong, put in more than 550 plus hours to make meaningful programs and an outstanding book store happen. If you happened to be at the J during the Festival, you saw packed audiences listening to authors, enjoying films, music and theater, shopping in the book store and connecting with friends.

While the end product appears as a perfectly orchestrated event, a team of dedicated volunteers and staff were working behind the scenes to ensure an impactful Festival. Work on the Festival actually begins months ahead of time. Committee members spend hours reading, participating in planning meetings and promoting the Festival.

It takes a village to set-up, manage and dismantle the expansive book store. Our ushers were on their feet for hours on end providing assistance. We had volunteers that showed up time and time again for various shifts and responsibilities. We are grateful to each volunteer that gave their time, energy and talent to give this 11-day gift and opportunity to the community.

Festival Chair Hilary Kamin eloquently described our volunteers. "This group of volunteers is caring, committed, intelligent, engaged, and so very giving and helpful.” While thanking a group of volunteers, Kamin stated, “I hope that you each found meaning in the way that you gave of your time…and I hope you are as proud as I am of all that we have given to our community these past 11 days.”

If you missed out on volunteering for the 2018 Festival, we have plenty of opportunities to volunteer at the J- for arts & culture programming and so much more. Check out upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Hungry for more author talks?
You don’t even have to wait until the next Festival. We have several author talks already booked for the spring for the Afterword.

Hope to see you there.
