The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center is committed to the safety, health and well-being of our staff, members and participants. As the world community monitors the news about the spread of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to assure you that the senior leadership team at the J is keeping up to date on the situation, listening to recommendations from appropriate authorities, and taking proactive steps to minimize disease transmission. In fact, members of our senior leadership team participated in a call recently with the CDC specifically for JCCs to discuss this global concern facilitated by the JCC Association.
In an ongoing effort to prevent the spread of illness within our J community, we want to share with you what’s happening in our buildings and programs:
  • Our cleaning personnel already use high-level antiviral cleaning agents to disinfect the entire facility on a daily basis. Our cleaning crew will be increasing the number of times per day that they clean and disinfect common surfaces throughout our buildings.
  • Our staff are being reminded and retrained on procedures for sanitizing toys in the ECC classrooms, toys in the babysitting room, equipment in the fitness center, as well as high use surfaces and equipment/supplies throughout the facility.
  • We will be making sure that all of our youth program participants (ECE, KidZone, after school classes) will engage in frequent and proper hand-washing and that we remind them about proper usage of tissues and their disposal for runny noses.
  • Hand sanitizer is located in common spaces throughout the building for your use.
In addition, there are measures that you and your family can take to reduce the spread of illness:
  • If you are not feeling well and exhibit any symptoms of illness, please refrain from attending programs and utilizing facilities until all symptoms have subsided. If you have a fever, please make sure that you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to the J to use our facilities or participate in any programs.
  • If your children are enrolled in any of our youth programs and exhibit signs of illness, please keep them home until they are well. If you are an ECE family, please strictly adhere to our "return to school" guidelines for your children after an illness. Also, if you are called to pick up a sick child from any of our programs, please arrive in as timely a manner as is safely possible.
  • Remember to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Consider carrying hand sanitizer to use if soap and water is not readily available.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing (if a tissue is not readily available use the upper part of your arm/sleeve). Properly dispose of tissues and paper towels in appropriate trash receptacles.
  • If you work out in the Fitness Center, please use the wipes provided throughout the Fitness Center to wipe down your equipment both before and after use.
  • Any Fitness Center towels should be placed in the designated baskets located in the Fitness Center and Executive Locker Rooms.

Please know that the health and safety of our community is our utmost concern. We are continually evaluating the situation and our procedures should the situation change, and will communicate such changes to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
