Dear Friends,

All of us that work at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC and call it our second home look forward to each and every day. The J is defined by you, our members, and driving up to an empty parking lot and dark building is both difficult and heartbreaking. On behalf of our entire staff team, our Board President, Lauren Kaufman Blachman, and our Board of Trustees, we hope that you are faring as well as possible during this difficult time. We thank you for your unwavering support and know we will get through this together.
Thank you for your patience as we work through all of the challenges this environment creates as it is changing minute by minute. We do understand that you depend on the J and want to provide you with the following important updates:

  1. We will continue to maintain our essential services including Meals on Wheels and J-RIde, that enable the most vulnerable senior populations access to food and critical doctors’ appointments. Last week 87 volunteers delivered 1660 meals and an additional 330 frozen meals and 2000 shelf stable meals in five days. Volunteers are sorely needed to continue this service. Please contact Morgan Steinberg at if you are healthy and available to volunteer.

  2. In order to continue to deliver services to you during this time of social distancing, our staff has created a menu of wonderful program options. I hope that you have taken advantage of the wide array of J@Home virtual programs that have included everything from story time, challah baking, educational lectures and a wide array of fitness and recreational programming with more to come. Check this week's line-up as our staff want to continue to find ways to keep you and your family connected and engaged. We will continue to work to add additional online programs to help you cope and stay connected with each other and our J.

  3. In accordance with the State of Texas guidelines regarding fitness and recreational facilities and gatherings, all J facilities will remain closed through at least April 3. Our early childhood education programs and KidZone will also remain closed based on state and city mandated guidelines. We will continue to monitor the various school districts accordingly and communicate with you on a regular basis as things evolve and change.

Your continued financial support of the J is essential to our ability to retain staff, be ready to return to full service, and continue to provide programs for those who are in need. We cannot emphasize enough the devastating impact mass refunds or cancellations would have on our staff and our community. If possible, we ask you to please continue to support the J by keeping your membership active and maintaining your tuition and program fee payments, as these are essential to support our vibrant J.
We also recognize that some members of our community may be experiencing financial hardships. As always, we are here to support you. If you need any assistance or wish to discuss this further, feel free to contact me at 713.551.7232 or our Member Services Director, Leslie Lerner, at or 713.729.3200. Your continued patience and cooperation is very much appreciated.

Our J has always served as the hub of our community in times of challenge and prosperity. We will continue to do so, during this difficult time and beyond. If I can be of any assistance, feel free to call or email me at

Wishing you and your family all the best.

With deepest appreciation,

Joel Dinkin
