An Update from Our CEO

Dear Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Community,

As you are aware, last week, following the guidance from our Medical Advisory Task Force and recommendations from Harris County leadership, we have chosen to dial back our reopening plan, to play our part in reducing the curve of the pandemic. As a result, we have temporarily closed our Fitness Center, Indoor Tennis Center and Gymnastics facilities. Our goal is to reopen these areas as soon as possible, and we plan on providing you with an update the week of July 13. Meanwhile, we continue to provide our critical programs of Meals on Wheels; childcare at BAS, West Houston and Summer Fun for children of essential professionals; and are allowing our outdoor pool and tennis courts to remain open.

We apologize for the inconvenience that the disruption is causing and know that you rely on the J for many important services and programs. When we reopen, we want to be able to remain fully operational and provide you with a full array of activities. Your health and safety are and will always remain our priority, and we are using this time to further advance and refine our protocols, to ensure that our J is as safe as possible.

We recognize that closing some of our facilities and modifying programs is inconvenient and that due to the pandemic some of you may be experiencing financial strain. If you need to freeze your membership fees until the J reopens, please contact Leslie Lerner at For families enrolled in BAS, West Houston, Summer Fun or Gymnastics, our staff will follow up with you regarding options to continue supporting the J or to request a refund. If you are able to maintain your usual membership during this time, your continued financial support of the J would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. Feel free to contact me at or Teri Greenblatt, our COVID-19 Coordinator, at

Wishing everyone remains safe and healthy.
