The Sherry and Gerald Merfish and Family Matching Gift Program Supporting Our New J
The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center is pleased to announce the Sherry and Gerald Merfish and Family Matching Gift Program to continue momentum towards Our New J, the renovation and expansion project announced in February. The family has agreed to a $2-to-$1 match of any pledged commitment of $10,000 to $250,000 that is made by Labor Day.
The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC is raising a total of $50 million to further their expansion project and to create a full service, lifestyle and community destination. To date, the J has raised $37.5 million for the renovation project.
“We are delighted and appreciative of the Merfish family’s commitment to making Our New J a reality,” stated Joel Dinkin, CEO, Evelyn Rubenstein JCC. “We recognize that through times of uncertainty, there is nothing more certain than the importance of community – and this project will preserve the J’s presence for generations to come.”
The construction project will consist of 126,000 square feet towards a new facility and 27,000 square feet of renovations to the existing center. The plans remain the same and will feature a new three-story state-of-the-art facility that includes enhanced features, a new building configuration, family-centric aquatics complex, culinary studio, and dedicated fitness area amongst other additions and improvements.
"For many generations, the J has been the epicenter of Jewish life for our community and our family,” said Sherry and Gerald Merfish. "For every age and for every interest, there is a program, a facility, and a peer group at the J, providing vital opportunities for connectedness. We feel very fortunate to be able to support the J during this renovation and to contribute to its ongoing growth and evolution with the Sherry and Gerald Merfish and Family Matching Gift Program. We encourage our community members to recognize the J and to join us in supporting the campus revitalization."
Gifts must be pledged by September 7, 2020 and can be paid over a period of up to five years. Recognition for gifts made to the matching program will be honored at the original gift level.
