The celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel's Independence Day) will look and feel very different this year for our Houston community. At a time where so many of us are craving human interaction, while still wanting to remain safe,  we are excited to offer the community many unique ways to celebrate Israel’s 73rd Birthday.  Check out these high quality, meaningful ways to connect with Israel and with the greater Jewish community.

Shabbat Family Field Day | Celebrating Israel
Saturday, April 10 | 1:00 PM & 3:30 PM
Enjoy an afternoon on the large outdoor field at the Merfish Center with your family.  Learn Krav Maga, play gaga, make Israel themed slime, create new Israel art for your home and enjoy companionship of other families all while celebrating Israel’s Birthday! Registration is required.

Bring Israel into your home with our fun and age appropriate Israel To-Go Gift Bags! Be sure to show us your finished products by tagging us on Instagram and Facebook! Registration is required. 

"Happy Birthday Israel" Drive-Through Parade
Thursday, April 15 | 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel’s 73rd birthday, with a drive-through parade that will fill your car and your heart with the Israel spirit! Registration is required.

Yom Ha’atzmaut: Moments of Pride Through Israeli Innovation
Wednesday, April 14 | 7:00 PM 
Seventy three years after its founding we will showcase Israel’s culture of innovation through the eyes of three social entrepreneurs who are leaders in cyber security, agriculture, and emergency health care advances.  This program is being hosted by the JCCA. 

Film: There Are No Lions in Tel Aviv
April 14-April 16

Celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut with this extraordinary story of the Tel Aviv zoo. In 1935, Max Shorenstein left his honorable position as Chief Rabbi of Copenhagen to fulfill a longtime dream: build a zoo in Tel Aviv and teach the local children about the love of animals. Against all odds, the zoo became the city's greatest attraction. Registration is required. 

Tel Aviv Then and Now -  Synopsis of the movie There Are No Lions in Tel Aviv

Join us for a recap of the film, There Are No Lions in Tel Aviv.  We will discuss the significance of the film, the time line of Tel Aviv in the early 1900 to present and the way Zoos have evolved into Safari’s.
This conversation will be facilitated by Marna Meyer, Community Events and Israel Engagement Director at the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and Rotem Cohen, Israeli Shlicha.

H68- Teen Game Night and Celebrating Israel’s Birthday
Saturday, April 10
Compete alone or in a group through a series of games including bingo, trivia, and much more! Games will be designed to test your prowess in knowledge, strategy, speed, and agility. At this in-person interactive game night, you will celebrate your game victory alongside the celebration of an important birthday - Israel is turning 73!
