Become a Counselor


J Camps have many job opportunities for applicants to select from. Some of those include traditional day camps, such as Bertha Alyce Early Childhood Camp, Kinder Camp and Camp Kaleidoscope. Other camps include Sports, Gymnastics, Tennis, Aquatics, Technology Camps and more.


Counselors are responsible for groups of 15 to 20 children on a daily basis. Their main roles include managing children's behavior as well as acting as a positive role model and mentor.

Counselors also need to model constructive participation in all daily activities as well as work closely with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Directors to ensure the safety of all children. Counselors must have completed 10th grade and participate in staff training prior to the start of camp.

Junior Counselor Entering Junior or Senior year in high school in the fall.
Senior Counselor High School Graduate, College student or older as of May.

Camp Specialists

J Camps also look for a number of Specialists to lend their talent and expertise to our camp programs. Specialists work in a variety of different areas of camp, including art, Judaics, sports, music and dance. Specialists must have experience teaching in their specialty area.

Counselors in Training Program 

9th and 10th graders are invited to apply for the J Camps Counselor In Training (CIT) program. Accepted applicants will receive classroom leadership training, onsite and hands on experience, as well as be eligible for community service hours upon completion of the program. Learn more
