Teen Advocates for Change - Grades 6-8 
J-Teen Advocates for Change (J-TAC) is a 10-week program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders who care deeply about social justice. This program combines Jewish learning with taking action in the community. As part of J-TAC participants will meet with community leaders who are driving advocacy and change. The program culminates with teens designing and implementing their own multi-week social action project in the Houston Community through a partnership with the 5th Ward non-profit, The Center for Urban Transformation.  Teens will get the opportunity to work with Rabbi Barry Gelman.

Red Cross Babysitter's Training & Pediatric First Aid/CPR

The Red Cross will be offering babysitter training and CPR certification for teens ages 11-15 on March 14 & 15, 2022

Teens must attend both days in order to earn certification.

Leadership Opportunities

J-Teen Philanthropy Initiative  9-12 Gr

The J-Teen Philanthropy Initiative (JTPI) aims to inspire a diverse group of high school students to make a real difference in the greater Houston Community and beyond. Participants will raise and allocate upwards of $10,000 to address real community issues through a consensus building and project-based learning model. Teens will meet bi-monthly to research, explore organizations, and causes they wish to support, learn about the process of grant making, hear from local philanthropists, and explore Jewish values.

Target Teen Leadership  10-11 Gr

Target Teen Leadership is a semester long experiential leadership training program for 20 existing and high potential 10th and 11th graders in the greater Houston Jewish community. Teens will receive exposure and awareness to a breadth of Jewish community executives and agencies, develop a network of peers across the community and provide tools and resources for a variety of leadership topics that are applicable to present day and in the future through a Jewish lens. Nomination and application required.

JCC Maccabi Games®

The JCC Maccabi Games is an amazing event where thousands of Jewish teens meet, compete and have a great time, creating memories that will last a lifetime. It's much more than just a week of sports and the arts. The energy and excitement of the JCC Maccabi Games make this a unique and unforgettable experience for each athlete, artist, volunteer, coach, spectator, host family and sponsor.

Meet teens from all over Houston with Houston Connect 68 (HC68)!  

HC68 is a fun, safe community program which offers an exciting mix of social opportunities designed for middle school students, open to the community, members and public. Monthly events will feature a wide variety of positive experiences designed to help bridge the gap between pre and post Bar/Bat Mitzvah and high school programs. HC68 allows middle school students to begin to understand the privileges and obligations of being a member of a community.

Merfish Teen Center

The Merfish Teen Center is open! Come by after school to hang out and do homework in our seating lounge or café tables or play basketball in our covered courts. Wi-Fi accessible. The Merfish Teen Center is located at 9000 S. Rice Avenue.
