Membership Code of Conduct
MEMBERSHIP CODE OF CONDUCT
The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center (JCC) is dedicated to maintaining a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all members, guests, and staff. To uphold this standard, everyone who enters our facilities or participates in our programs is expected to act responsibly, respectfully, and in alignment with our community values.
General Expectations
All members, guests, participants, and staff are expected to adhere to the following policies while on JCC property or participating in any JCC-sponsored activity:
- Conduct must reflect a family-friendly atmosphere at all times.
- All individuals must scan in using Brivo access or follow the visitor sign-in protocol upon entry.
- Report any suspicious, inappropriate, or unsafe behavior to a JCC staff member immediately.
- Unattended bags or packages are not permitted and should be reported to staff.
- Pets are not allowed on JCC campuses or inside buildings (service and assistance animals are exempt).
- Appropriate attire is required. Shirts and athletic shoes must be worn in fitness and gym areas.
- Personal hygiene must be maintained to prevent unpleasant odors and promote cleanliness.
- Children under age 13 must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
- Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves and helping maintain a clean, safe facility.
Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action:
- Use of angry, vulgar, or offensive language, including shouting, swearing, or name-calling.
- Physical aggression or hostile contact with others.
- Stalking, leering, or any unwelcome interactions or communications.
- Sexual harassment or inappropriate sexual behavior.
- Engaging in business activities that conflict with JCC services (e.g., unauthorized personal training or lessons).
- Granting unauthorized access to the facility, including sharing Brivo credentials.
- Theft, vandalism, or damage to property.
- Possession or concealment of weapons or objects perceived as weapons (except for law enforcement or authorized security).
- Use of tobacco products, including vaping and e-cigarettes, anywhere on JCC property.
- Possession, use, distribution, or sale of illegal drugs or misuse of prescription drugs.
- Alcohol consumption on JCC premises, unless approved for a special event.
- Taking photos or videos of others without their consent.
- Any behavior that endangers the health, safety, or wellbeing of others.
- Loitering or behavior that causes disturbance to other members or staff.
- Soliciting, gambling, proselytizing, or panhandling on JCC property.
Membership Suspension or Revocation
Membership may be suspended or revoked at the discretion of JCC leadership based on the severity of a violation. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis when conduct is deemed harmful to the mission, values, or safety of the JCC community.
Parents and guardians are fully responsible for the conduct of their children while on JCC property or participating in programs.
The JCC reserves the right to take any action necessary in response to a violation, including but not limited to: refusal of service, removal from the premises, suspension, or revocation of membership and facility access.
Policy Updates
The JCC reserves the right to amend this Code of Conduct at any time without prior notice. The most current version will always be available at www.erjcchouston.org.
