Houston, TX – Evelyn Rubenstein JCC of Houston presents Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre, one of the most anticipated dance events in Houston, January 13 – February 12, 2017. Dance Month celebrates 37 seasons of showcasing prominent choreographers, master teachers, companies and dancers.
Highlights of the month-long series of workshoips, master classes and performances include: Israeli Contemporary Performance Art with Amy Morrow & Idan Sharabi, the film, Mr. Gaga, directed by Tomer Heymann who will be in attendance, Ariel Rivka Dance, Houston Choreographers X6 with Special Guest Houston Ballet II, excerpts from Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards’ And Still You Must Swing and Jason Samuels Smith’s Going the Miles along with Tap Master Classes with Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Derick K. “Dance is the voice by which artists tell a story without speaking,” said Terry Cominsky, Dance Committee Chairwoman at the J. “The passionate movements of the dancer allow the audience to interpret the story within their own minds. It can be slow and fluid, fast and furious, or upbeat and fun. From Ballet to Hip Hop, Contemporary to Tap, there is a concert that speaks to everyone.”
In addition to dance events, Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre in partnership with the Society for the Performing Arts, present a master class with Pilobolus. Reservations can be made at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All dance performances take place in the Kaplan Theatre at the J. Master classes are in the J’s dance studio. Purchase tickets at www.erjcchouston.org/dancemonth. Find us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.
