Not Your Bubbe’s Yiddish
Houston, TX – If you thought Yiddish was a dying language, think again. YidLife Crisis, a popular web series featuring two 30-something secular Jewish friends, Chaimie and Eli, comes to the J Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. The comedy duo will defy all your preconceived notions of Yiddish and Yiddish culture through an evening of skits, film clips and hilarious comedic banter.
“YidLife Crisis is a crazy revival of Yiddish and the Yiddish World in a modern mash-up. Beware, frequently irreverent, but hysterical,” said Leah Stolar, Patron Sponsor for An Evening with YidLife Crisis.
YidLife Crisis was born when two childhood friends, Eli Batalion and Jamie Elman, fueled their desire to pay homage to the yiddishkayt of their upbringing and the questioning Jewish comedic lens with which they were raised. Batalion and Elman define a YidLife Crisis as “the identity crisis one has reconciling their old world inheritance with their new world lifestyle.” Filmed in Yiddish with English subtitles, this is precisely what the web series is about when it addresses issues like Christmas and Chinese restaurants, the merits of circumcision and the origins of the bagel.
Since its inception in 2014, YidLife Crisis has attracted the attention of the Jewish community worldwide, as well as a number of Jewish celebrities. A dessert and wine reception will immediately precede the show. Purchase tickets at www.erjcchouston.org/yiddish. Visit www.erjcchouston.org for more information about our programs and services.
