Summer Adult Art Classes
Thursday, June 14, 2018

Houston, TX – Summer marks the beginning of a new season and the opening of the newly-renovated art studio for drawing, painting, ceramics and jewelry making at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC. “The students are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to set up the art studios and return to many of the classes that were offered before Hurricane Harvey,” stated Morgan Steinberg, Adult Program Director.

Ceramic students will focus on ceramics & sculpture and wheel throwing. Whether your aim is functional or sculptural ceramics, learn the basic techniques of hand building as you work with slabs, coils, and pinching to create virtually anything you can dream up. All levels welcomed. In wheel throwing, beginners will learn the tools, techniques and vocabulary of clay. Intermediate and advanced students will be guided to refine skills and explore complex techniques.

Many people aspire to learn to paint, but few know where to begin. In our drawing and painting classes, art instruction is based on your individual needs and interests. All levels are welcomed, and lessons are tailored to your ability. Exercises will help students explore line, value, shade, texture, color composition and more. You will get a chance to explore your creative side in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Do you love stones, beads, fossils, and gems. Beading and wire wrapping is a great class for those who want to bead but don’t know where to start. You will design, wrap, string and finish unique pieces of jewelry, ncluding necklaces, bracelets, rings, pins and pendants. “No prior experience necessary.” stated Ruthi Drori-Mitelman, beading and wire wrapping instructor.
