|The J Announces its First Ever Kids Book Club!|
|Tuesday, August 28, 2018|
The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC of Houston is launching its first ever kids’ book club. The club will provide enthusiastic readers in grades 3-5 with a chance to read and discuss books that connect with Jewish values. Facilitated by Ellen Leventhal, the club will be an exciting opportunity for children to engage in thoughtful discussion with their peers while also strengthening their values and leadership skills. Participants will be involved in Oliver Lapin Family Day at the Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Festival and will have the opportunity to engage first-hand with visiting children’s authors. It will meet on seven Thursdays this semester (Sept 13 & 27, Oct 11 & 25, and Nov 8 & 29, Dec 13) from 4:15-5:15 PM.
Hilary Kamin, chair of the J’s Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Festival, said, “I am so excited to see the joy of reading Jewish content and Jewish authors extending to our youngest readers. By providing these book-centric opportunities to socialize, think, question and discuss, we are providing valuable life skills to these children that will serve them well into adulthood.”
The book club is open to members and public, and the $110 registration fee includes four books that will be read throughout the semester. Please let the J know if your child is interested or if you know any enthusiastic readers you would like to recommend. Register online at erjcchouston.org/jbookclub, or contact Amy Rahmani at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
