Gymnast Michael Artlip of the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center’s Houston Gymnastics Center (HGC) recently placed 5th to qualify for the USA National Gymnastics Championships junior division at the 2019 Men’s National Qualifier at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Artlip is one of only six juniors to qualify to the junior competition at the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri August 8-11. His total combined of 124.350 put him in a solid 5th place to qualify.
The top six qualified using the 15-16 and 17-18 age divisions combined-rank order all around results (optional plus technical sequence score). Artlip’s coach, past and current national coaching staff member Gene Watson of HGC said, “Michael trained exceptionally well over the last two months to prepare and meet his goal of qualifying for the first time to the National Championships. Michael has qualified and competed on numerous occasions to the Jr. National Championships and has past championship medals from that event, but this is the first ever for him to compete on the podium at the USA Nationals.”
In addition, gymnast Sage Goldman of HGC competed in the Jr. USA National Trampoline and Tumbling competition and placed first in the 14 & under Level 10 division along with partner Jayden McCarter from Manning Gymnastics in Victoria, TX, in the Synchronized Trampoline competition at the T & T National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa last week. Sage was also the silver medalist in the 9 & up division of the Double Mini Tramp competition.
