|The J Announces Brand New Comedy Program|
|Tuesday, August 27, 2019|
The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston (the J) is excited to announce a brand new program, A Night of Comic Belief, playing in its Kaplan Theatre at 5601 South Braeswood on Thursday, September 19 at 7:30 PM. Three Jewish comedians featuring headliner Jessica Kirson will entertain audiences. Kirson will be joined by comedians Eli Lebowicz and Andrew Tavin.
In an era where only 10% of all touring comedians are female, Kirson stands out as one of the strongest comedians regardless of gender. She was recently awarded “Best Female Comic” by the MAC association in New York City and received the prestigious Nightlife Award for “Best Stand-up Comedian.” Her act is a hilariously relatable performance of sheer silliness, vulnerability and ridiculous characters.
Kirson’s fame has grown exponentially in the past few years. Her character videos have racked up over 30 million views on social media. She served as a consultant, producer, writer, and actor in the Robert De Niro film The Comedian. De Niro calls her “a powerhouse on stage. A true professional.” Audiences may also recoginize her from her appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The View and Kevin Can Wait.
The evening will also feature comedians Eli Lebowicz and Andrew Tavin. Lebowicz is a standup comedian originally from Chicago, who now lives in New York City. He was the Co-Creator and Head Writer for The Quipster, Yeshiva University's first satire publication. Tavin is a New York City comedian now living in Chicago. He writes online articles and videos, and his work has been featured on PITtv, Collegehumor, Sparklife and beyond. Following their comedy sets, Jessica, Eli and Andrew will have a conversation about Judaism and comedy.
