The Great Chametz Hunt
Grab your feathers, candles and spoons—it is time for a chametz search! It is customary to prepare for Passover by hiding chametz (bread products) around your house and then searching for them using a feather, candle and spoon. Kids will have the opportunity to find the hidden “chametz” around the playground and turn it in for a prize!
School’s Out Help Out Plant it Forward
School’s Out Help Out series with Repair the World!
Join us for our fourth event in our School’s Out Help Out series as we engage with and learn about food and environmental justice.
Plant It Forward (PIF) empowers refugees to develop sustainable urban farming businesses that produce fresh, healthy food for our community. The organization secures land, trains and mentors farmers and facilitates sales to local markets. Located throughout Houston, PIF farms are cultivated with sustainable practices that enrich the land and feed the surrounding communities.
Families will visit a plant it forward farm, experience sustainable local agriculture while exploring the unique environment of the Texas Gulf Coast. Furthermore, families will come away from their experience with a better understanding of who a refugee is and how new American families serve Houston. Program is geared for adults and children 5-10 years old .
School’s Out Help Out Feeding the Lonestar
School’s Out Help Out series with Repair the World!
Elementary school age children and their families are invited to Feeding the Lonestar, where we will help to prepare food for those in our community who are experiencing food and housing insecurity.
Feeding the Lone Star is a non-denominational nonprofit organization in Houston, creating meaningful volunteer experiences through hands-on meal preparation. In just 90 minutes, volunteers come together to prepare nutritious meals for Houstonians experiencing food and housing insecurity, making a real impact. Let’s add light to the world, one meal at a time!
This program is geared to families with elementary school age children ages 5-10
