Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification Course | June 20-21
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification course prepares candidates to teach the Basic Lifeguarding program, including CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid. This blended learning course includes a 2-hour online module, a required pre-course skills session and 16+ hours of in-person training. The focus is on instructional techniques, skill evaluation and scenario-based practice.
Key Course Details:
Purpose: Prepares candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses
Format: Blended learning (online and in-person)
Prerequisites: Must be at least 17 years old, hold a current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification and complete the online introduction module
Core Topics: Classroom management, lesson delivery, skill assessment and aquatic rescue scenarios
Prerequisite Skills Assessment (In-Person): Candidates must successfully complete a skills evaluation that includes:
- Swim-Tread-Swim: Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to the surface, swim back and tread water for two minutes using legs only.
- Assessment Scenario: Perform an active or passive submerged rescue, rapid extrication and three minutes of single-rescuer CPR.
Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification (15 Years and Up) | June 14
American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course for currently certified lifeguards needing to renew their certification. Participants must hold a current or recently expired American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Online pre-course work is required prior to the first class. Pre-requisite swim skills testing will be administered on the first day.
