Shabbat Shalom,

Thank you for your patience as we continue to move forward with building repairs and work to resume as many programs and activities as possible. I wanted to provide you with a number of important updates and announcements.

Thank you Jewish Federation of Greater Houston
I was informed earlier this week that the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston made a grant of $1 million to the J to support the repair and renovations costs for all of our facilities. More than $17 million has been raised to support Hurricane Harvey and relief efforts, and we are grateful to the Jewish Federation for its partnership and to all of the donors that have contributed to the fund.

Weingarten Building Updates
The boiler is now fully operational. The water temperature in the indoor pool is heating up, and hot water is available throughout the building. Swim lessons will begin on Sunday, Oct 29. The availability of hot water enables us to move warmer air throughout the building, and I hope that you will find the temperature comfortable.

The exterior and interior elevators are not operational, and the projected time table for repairs is 6-8 weeks. Apparently, due to extensive flooding and damage, elevator parts are hard to come by, and the manufacturer is having trouble meeting demand.

Meals on Wheels will continue to operate at St. Philips United Methodist Church, and we will continue to hold classes and programs at Godwin Park. I recognize that the lack of accessibility is problematic and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Laykie's Gourmet Café at the J
I'm pleased to announce that Laykie's Gourmet Café at the J will re-open at 11:00 AM Sunday, Oct 29.

Boniuk Family Indoor Tennis Center
Our Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School transitioned to the Merfish Teen Center on Oct 25, and we look forward to re-opening of the Boniuk Family Tennis Center on Sunday. We very much appreciate the support of our tennis members and patience over these past two months.

Fitness Center
I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy our temporary fitness center in the auditorium and take one of our fitness or mind/body exercise classes.

Our friends at the Y have generously extended the opportunity to use Y fitness facilities through Dec 31. I know everyone joins me in expressing our grateful appreciation to leadership of the Y for opening their doors.

Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book and Arts Festival
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Festival which opens tomorrow night at 8:00 PM. The book store has been set up in the board room (off of the main lobby and in the lobby).
