We are happy to report that the J has started to offer family activities through the J’s new Family Engagement program! Many of us have missed family programming, Jewish and recreational, in a community setting. Family Engagement programs offer small, in-person, outdoor gatherings for families that are ready to attend events and provide activities that families may complete at home for those who prefer to stay isolated. These events celebrate Judaism through creative family activities.

The J’s Family Engagement programming is intended for families of pre-school and elementary-aged children. Many families have children in both age groups and want to be able to attend activities as a family. We will continue to offer activities focused on younger children, like Tot Shabbat, and add activities that appeal to older children, like Israel-themed family bingo. Many activities will appeal to the entire family. For those of you that have participated in Mishpacha & Me, the J’s Family Engagement will continue to provide Jewish experiences for children and families.

Our first Tot Shabbat took place on Friday, October 9 at 11:00 AM. Tot Shabbats start with a creative activity for families to participate in, before music and services at 11:30 AM. The next one will take place on October 23. You can register to attend free Tot Shabbats here.

We are excited about the programs scheduled for the next few months. Some of the activities include:

  • Outdoor Family Field Days
  • In-person and at home Judaica pottery paint projects
  • Meals on Wheels Family Delivery to share in tikkun olam as a family
  • Drive-in story time during the Oliver Lapin Family Experience
  • Drive-in Hanukkah movie and candle lighting
  • Tot Shabbat. We will be singing and welcoming Shabbat outside on the enclosed Merfish Teen Center lawn. There will be plenty of space for social distancing and to let your kids get out their energy.
  • Virtual Israeli-themed family bingo

We are excited to begin the J’s Family Engagement programming and look forward to welcoming you and your family!

All programs will require advance sign-up in order to ensure proper social distancing protocols.
