Most of us are ready to put the year 2020 behind us and move on to a more hopeful 2021.
With just a few weeks left, here are a few ways you can prepare for the new year and finish off 2020 on a high note.
- Move More - If you aren't already spending at least 30 minutes a day participating in a moderate level activity, the time to start is now. If you are comfortable around others, come and join one of our in-person classes. Or if you're more comfortable at home, J @Home offers a wide variety of classes including our large collection of archive classes that you can use at your convenience. At the very least, spend some time outside walking or riding your bike.
- Eat Less - Holidays generally offer an assortment of not so healthy food offerings. The key to maintaining your weight is portion control. It's ok to occasionally sample holiday treats, just don't make a meal out of them. You can also reduce your cravings by choosing healthier options in the form of fruits and vegetables.
- Add Something New - This is a great time to expand your horizons. There are so many ways to improve yourself; read a new book, learn another language, take a class or start a new hobby. All of these are great ways to exercise the mind and improve your mental health.
- Stay Connected - With Covid-19 still playing a large factor in our lives, it's important to stay in touch with friends and family. Zoom and other virtual platforms have made it possible to connect to almost anyone anywhere. You can also pick up the phone and call people to stay connected. Or, go old school and write a letter.
Don't wait for 2021 to make those small changes and most importantly, stay positive and don't get discouraged with set backs.
