Film Fest: The Sea

Drama | 2025 | 93 min | Israel | Arabic, Hebrew

Directed by Shai Carmeli-Pollak

Israel’s official submission for the 2026 Academy Awards portrays Khaled, a Palestinian boy from the West Bank, embarking on a perilous journey to the sea for the first time in his life, despite being denied entry by the Israeli authorities. Determined to fulfill his dream, Khaled takes dangerous risks as he sneaks into Israel with no plan, no money and no knowledge of Hebrew. His father, Ribhi, an undocumented laborer working in Israel, abandons his job and risks arrest to search for his missing son. This quiet and lyrical film was nominated for 13 Israeli Academy Awards.
