Calling all parents with little ones! Don’t feel stuck at home while taking care of your baby. Join our new Parents & Babies Art Excursions Club! Experience culture, socialize with friends and care for your baby all at the same time!
On our monthly thematic excursions for parents with their babies —stroller or baby carrier—we’ll explore top notch visual art in our world class museums, galleries and artists’ studios. Let’s dive into some of the best of the best in visual art, right here in Houston! Our tour will be interactive with great flexibility for parents and babies’ needs. This program will be led by Mayrav (May) Fisher, who brings over 20 years of art museum education experience in top museums such as The Guggenheim, The Whitney and MFAH.
This event will be held at the MFAH:
The meeting point will be the Beck Building lobby at 11:00 AM when the museum doors open. Each adult must purchase their own ticket and the tour is free. Please purchase museum tickets online or at the lobby.
In addition to purchasing a MFAH ticket, please sign up via the registration link below, to let us know that you’ll be attending. Space is limited so make sure to register early.
How have artists over the centuries been depicting the concept of family?
In Judaism, the family unit has always included universal values such as respecting one’s parents (kibbud Av V’em), peace in the home (shlom bayit), kindness (chesed), justice and charity (tzedakah) and procreation (pru urvu). From ancient to contemporary, we will explore works of art from the MFAH’s permanent collection, showcasing artists’ perspectives on family and lifestyle. Let’s discover and discuss different media and techniques, social values, priorities and lifestyles from a variety of cultures and time periods, and how they connect to the values held in Jewish culture and how they relate to our notions of families today.
