Early Childhood Education

Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School and Ellen Boniuk Early Childhood School

Located in Southwest Houston and in West Houston, The Bertha Alyce Early Childhood School (BAS) and Ellen Boniuk Early Childhood School (EBS), serve children ages six weeks through five years old.

Our schools offer nurturing environments where young children learn through an emergent curriculum founded in play. Both schools are accredited as 4-Star Texas Rising Star Schools.

The celebration of Jewish heritage and traditions are passed to children through creative programming with Shabbat, Havdalah, and holiday celebrations. Our staff allow children to learn through active investigations of their environment in partnership with teachers and peers. For young children, academic and social-emotional learning are developed as children construct their knowledge through hands-on individual and group educational experiences.

Teachers at both BAS and EBS guide children to:

  • Develop a positive self-concept and confidence
  • Inspire curiosity and inquiry
  • Create a positive Jewish identity
  • Form trusting relationships
  • Increase self-regulation and independence
  • Utilize critical thinking skills
  • Enhance executive functioning skills
  • Develop cognitive, social, physical and language skills necessary for lifelong learning

Karol Musher STARS Early Childhood Intervention Program

The Karol Musher STARS Early Childhood Intervention Program uses a team approach to promote the growth and individual potential of preschoolers with disabilities and developmental delays. Located within BAS, this innovative program individualizes instruction and offers support to families, so that children can realize their full potential.

We admit children of diverse abilities and assess the “fit” of our program for each child applying. Some of the diagnoses and disorders our program serves include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Apraxia and/or Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Receptive – Expressive Language Disorder, Noncategorical Developmental Delay, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Hypotonia, and Speech Delay.

The STARS program is committed to providing educational programs aligned with recommended practices in early childhood special education and developmentally appropriate practice as outlined by the Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children (DEC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
