This award-winning film is the true story of Martha Liebermann, widow of towering German Jewish impressionist painter, Max Liebermann. In 1943 Berlin, Martha, age 85, is forced to choose whether to escape to Switzerland with a resistance group or to wait for almost certain deportation to a concentration camp. The film explores the choices people made to protect what was rightfully theirs—and also to protect one’s legacy during a time of brutality and persecution.
