The Lost Baker of Vienna
In conversation with Melissa Cohen-Nickels, Curator of the Joan and Stanford Alexander South Texas Jewish Archives.
We invite book clubs and individual readers to unite in a shared literary experience.
A long-buried family mystery, cherished recipes and a journey across generations culminate in this novel about memory, identity and resilience. Rooted in the author’s family history, this remarkable story confronts the realities of the Jewish post-WWII experience. Spanning decades and continents, it follows Zoe Rosenzweig, a woman determined to uncover the truth about her family’s past, and Chana Rosenzweig, a baker in 1946 Vienna. Through both Zoe and Chana’s perspectives, we explore how stories are passed down, the choices we make to keep those we love safe and how we can take control of our story.
