Houston Gymnastics Center Staff
Our gymnasts are taught by some of the finest coaches in the country and all USA Gymnastics Safety Certified and Professional Members.
Their experience ranges from not only coaching gymnast to peak performances at state and national championships, but some are former Olympians and all our coaches have a vast experience in leadership in gymnastics.
Assistant Executive Director, Gymnastics/Sports Recreation
Tim has been coaching and/or directing gymnastics for more than 30+ years. He has been fortunate enough to have coached many of the highest ranked Junior Gymnasts in the United States, including Steve McCain who went on to become an Olympic Team Member. In addition, Tim has traveled as a representative of the USA Gymnastics Federation with gymnasts and teams to Russia and Japan. He formally served as a Jr. National Team Coach (6 years), a Junior Olympic Program Committee Member (3 years), the Texas State Chairman (9 years), and is currently on the Texas State Committee and is the treasurer of Texas State Sims Scholarship Committee.
Tim is a former gymnast and competed on two Illinois High School State Championship Teams. He has directed and coached at the Houston Gymnastics Center for 23 years. Tim has directed invitationals in Houston for 20 years, and the Houston National Invitational for 18 years. In addition, he was the Meet Director for the 2005 USA Gymnastics Men’s Junior Olympic National Championships.
Women's Team Coach, Girls Program Coach & Coordinator
Roumen comes to our Houston Gymnastics Center with an extensive background in gymnastics both as a competitor and coach. He was a 1980 and 1984 Olympic Team Member for Bulgaria and was a four-time World Championships Team Member. He is honored with a Master of Sport Degree and has been coaching in Houston for the last 16 years.
Roumen has developed national, regional, and state champions in women’s and men’s gymnastics. Roumen brings to us extensive knowledge and a great report with our team and recreational participants. He is a “hands on” coach that will give all our gymnasts special attention and training time.
Women's Team Coach, Coach Class Coach & Coordinator
Adam came to us from a Head Coaching position in South Carolina, and is a former member of NCAA Championship Team Penn State University where he was on a full gymnastics scholarship and voted Team Captain. He was also a former Jr. National Team Member and has an extensive background in progressive coaching and spotting techniques.
In addition to his team accomplishments, Adam was a two-time NCAA All-American at Penn State. He has been coaching for 12 years and coaches boys as well as girls gymnastics. Adam brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff, but a great positive style to coaching that shows his enthusiasm and love of the sport.
Deliana (Dee) Vodenitcharova
Women’s Team Coach Class Coach & Coordinator
Deliana competed in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea and Barcelona, Spain. She placed fourth on the Floor Exercise in Seoul and the Bulgarian National Team for which she competed placed fifth respectively.
Dee has an extensive background in physical education and coaching, and received her Bachelor Degree from the National Sports Academy in Sofia. She has coached in the Houston area for more than 6 years and has trained many successful gymnasts who have competed in the state, regional, and national championships. We are extremely excited to have Dee as part of our prestigious and experienced coaching staff.
Men’s Team Head Coach
Gene has been coaching gymnastics for quite some time. He competed for University of Georgia where he received his BSED. He received his MAED from Western Carolina University. A member of the Junior National Coaching Staff since 1983, he has been the director of numerous Regional and National Team Camps. While he was the Men’s Head Coach at the Atlanta School of Gymnastics, he was the Georgia State Chairman and Region VIII chairman.
Gene became the head men’s program director at International Gymnastics School in Stroudsburg, PA. He was also Regional Chairman for Region VII. In 1991, he moved to Indianapolis, and opened Indy School of Gymnastics. Over his twenty-year tenure at ISG, he was also on the faculty of University of Indianapolis. He has had numerous all-around and event champions at Junior Olympic National Championships and USA Championships. International medals from Canada, East Germany and the 2014 Bronze medalist at The Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China. He served as head coach of the Gold Medal team in the Junior Pan Am Games in Brazil. In 2015, he was named the Developmental Coach of the Year by the US Olympic Committee. The NCAA College Coaches Association named him Honor Coach of the Year in 2016.
Peter D. Brown
Boy’s Compulsory Coach
USAG Safety Certified, Safe Sport Certified, and 20yrs First Aid/CPR trained
Peter is a USAG certified coach in the men’s discipline. He has coached boys Rec. and levels 3 through 8 in both region 6 and region 3. He has a strong desire to develop a program that
teaches gymnastics skills safely, as well as encouraging strong team values, persistence, patience, and fun.
Andie currently coaches women's team levels 2, 3 and 4.
Xcel Team and Compulsory Team
Coach Sarah has worked for the Houston Gymnastics Center for two years and is the Head Coach of our growing Xcel Team. She has a wealth of the gymnastics knowledge and was a competitive gymnast and compulsory coach before coming to HGC.
She is currently working on her Special Education degree from University of Houston and loves to help her gymnasts grow as individuals and compete to their highest potential.
Head Coach for T&T Program
Coach Jimmy Owen is the Head coach for our T&T Program at HGC. He is a native Houstonian who attended Stephen F Austin State University and the University of Houston where he studied chemistry. Coach Jimmy has close to 20 years of coaching experience teaching everything from preschool gymnastics to boys team to Elite Level Trampoline & Tumbling and All Star Cheerleading. He is excited to be back at the J and is ready to rebuild the T&T Program to new heights.
